After the exhibition, "Today is Yesterday's Tomorrow" I returned to Cumbernauld to paint four underpasses with project leader, Neville Rae and a group of Glagow artists.
Since Cumbernauld was built as a post-war "utopia" in 1956, designers planned the new town for cars rather than pedestrians, resulting in a large number of underpasses and foot-bridges.
The four large-scale underpasses were painted during a two week period.
All of the designs were created by youth from Cumbernauld and reinterpreted by Neville Rae.
The underpass murals were commissioned by the British Council as part of a beautification initiative in response to the poor reputation of Cumbernauld.
